A simple workflow for character creators

Published: 2026-01-28

Most character creators are powerful, but they’re also easy to get lost in. If you’ve ever spent 45 minutes tweaking sliders and still felt “meh” about the result, this workflow will help.

1) Start with references (two is enough)

Pick one reference for face and one for style (lighting, palette, vibe). Keep them visible while you work.

2) Build a base preset first

Before you touch details, make a neutral base: proportions, head shape, and a plain material set. Save it as your “Base v1”.

3) Do three quick passes

  • Silhouette: adjust big shapes (jaw, brow, shoulders).
  • Features: eyes/nose/mouth and spacing.
  • Surface: hair, materials, and accessories.

4) Limit your “detail budget”

Pick 2–3 details that will carry the design (for example: hair + eyes + one accessory). Everything else supports those.

5) Export, then review

Export two versions: a clean neutral render and a “final” render with your intended style. Review them tomorrow with fresh eyes — you’ll spot what to fix instantly.

Pro tip: If you’re browsing for a tool, start on the Browse page and pick a creator that matches the style you want to make.
